Not Landscape: Fragments and Metaphors
Jo Babcock · Lukas Felzmann · Catherine Gfeller · Orit Raff · Abelardo Morell · Scott Davis
Curated by Marnie Gillett, Trena Noval, and Jane Levy Reed
SF Camerawork presents Not Landscape, an exhibition of work by Jo Babcock, Lukas Felzmann, Catherine Gfeller, Abelardo Morell, Orit Raff, and Scott Davis.
Not Landscape: Fragments and Metaphors explores the traditional subject of landscape as interpreted by contemporary photographers. The work featured is driven by ideas, with the artists framing the landscape in conceptual terms rather than as a literal recording of place. Some of the images are constructed views, others are imagined, made from unlikely subjects, or redefined as pure abstractions. In this expanded view of landscape, the photographs presented here invite new thinking about the subject and our relationship to the natural world.
