    Moving Forward /
    Looking Back

    In
Moving Forward / Looking Back, Los Angeles photographer James Fee unravels the myth of America in poetic images of factories, broken machinery, decaying buildings, cars and stranded ships. Fee's images question a country's faith in the symbols of its strength.

With an archeologist's eye for the meaning found in the detritus of civilization, Fee pours over the American landscape. He makes iconic views of a country trapped by a dream of progress and industrialization. Staining and fogging his prints, he imbues his photographs with an age beyond their years–though contemporary images, they seem to have already passed through present time into an elusive past.

This exhibition of James Fee's work is presented in association with Debra Heimerdinger / Fine Art Photographs, San Francisco.

    Corroborations:
    Ongoing Weavings
    of Photography and Sculpture

is an exhibition of collaborative assemblages by James Fee and sculptor George Herms. Their partnership has spawned an imaginative investigation of the interface between their two mediums. Creating both photo-based sculptures and sculpture-based photographs, each brings an understanding of his medium to the creative process, engaging new perspectives on the cultural artifacts which inspire them both. Their shared interest in the American past has led to a fertile interchange of ideas, giving rise to works which explore a range of social metaphor gleaned from the objects they examine. As they work off one another's creative energy, they recontextualize their combined interpretation. Their unique mix of image and sculptural material intuitively describes the landscape of our civilization.
