2002 Auction of Fine Photographic Prints Preview Exhibition:
A Benefit for San Francisco Camerawork
For those who would like to take the leap from looking at art on museum walls to seeing it on their own walls, San Francisco Camerawork's annual Auction is the ideal event. The Auction is not just for experienced collectors (who have long recognized the Auction as one of the richest resources for photographs by emerging and established artists) but a perfect opportunity for those who are new to collecting to find vintage and contemporary photographs at great prices. Unlike other media, such as painting and sculpture, photographs are often more affordableparticularly at Camerawork's popular Auctionand have great investment value. But investment isn't the only reason to purchase photographs. New and established collectors cite the collectable nature of photography, the mediums incredible breadth of subject matter and stylistic treatment, and the range of photographic techniques as some of the reasons they acquire photographs. Cameraworks annual benefit Auction provides a rare introduction to the photographic community of artists, collectors, and galleries, while also supporting one of San Franciscos premiere institutions devoted to contemporary photography.
At 1:00 pm on Saturday December 7th at the Hosfelt Gallery auctioneer Dale Stulz will start the bidding in Cameraworks 2002 Annual Benefit Auction of Fine Photographic Prints.
All photographs for sale may be previewed at the Hosfelt Gallery, 430 Clementina St., SF.from December 4th to 6th, and on the day of the Auction, Saturday, December 7st, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A special preview reception will be held Thursday, December 5th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Many nationally-known and emerging local photographers, as well as galleries, photography dealers, and collectors nationwide have contributed prints for the Auction, which is a benefit for SF Camerawork, now in its twenty-eighth year of critically acclaimed artistic programming in photography and related media. This year's highlights include works by noted artists such as Richard Barnes, Zeke Berman, Elinor Carucci, Mark Citret, Lukas Felzmann, Larry Fink, Jona Frank, Ann Hamilton, Robert Heinecken, Todd Hido, Bill Jacobson, Pirkle Jones, Michael Kenna, Mona Kuhn, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Richard Misrach, John O'Reilly, David Puntel, Aaron Siskind, Josef Sudek, Catherine Wagner, Jo Whaley, Joel-Peter Witkin, and many, many others.
Over 200 vintage and contemporary photographs will be offered up for auction by auctioneer Dale Stulz, formerly of Christie's and widely recognized as the most experienced and knowledgeable photography auctioneer in the field.
Admission is by Auction Catalog only.
