"Being a mentor has given me the opportunity to share my love of photography with the creative and motivated kids in First Exposures. We have learned a lot about each other and the medium." First Exposures is open to local young people aged 11 - 18 who
are affiliated with one of several South of Market and Tenderloin
agencies serving low-income, transitional, and homeless youth.
Our students all want to learn photography and can make the commitment
to attend class each Saturday from 10:30-2:30. (See also Schedule & Activities) mentors Mature photographers over the age of 21 who are interested in
working with young people to help them achieve their full potential
are invited to apply to be a mentor in First Exposures. Mentors
must have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of black and
white photography and have good darkroom skills. The mentor application
process includes a written application, fingerprinting and a criminal
history background check, reference checks, an interview and orientation
to the program. (See also About Mentoring.) donors First Exposures welcomes individual financial donations or in-kind
