MAGGIE PRESTON, Shot Form/Instant #1, 2012; 4-1/4 x 3-1/4 in., Polaroid. Edition of 10.
Maggie Preston works with the traditional materials of the black & white wet-darkroom to both produce her work and to provide the base for her subject matter. Utilizing film, light, gelatin-silver paper, and photographic chemistry, Preston’s subject matter evolves through her interaction and consideration of these fundamental elements. Preston turns the medium back in on itself, creating a loop incorporating the structural elements of both the physical space in which she makes work and the subsequent space in which she exhibits, casting a net over the seemingly incidental refuse of photographic production. Preston earned her MFA in 2008 from CCA in San Francisco. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2013 Preston received a grant from the Creative Capacity Fund.
